Monthly bonus credits for Premium subscribers expire at the end of each billing cycle. Credit bundles are delivered to your account immediately on payment and are non-refundable once delivered (see Section 6.1).
6. Payments and Billing
All payments are processed securely through Stripe. By subscribing to a Premium Plan or purchasing credit bundles, you agree to Stripe's Terms of Service. Prices are in British Pounds (GBP).
Monthly subscriptions are billed on a recurring monthly basis on the same calendar date each month from your initial purchase date. You may cancel at any time; cancellation terms are set out in Section 7.
Annual subscriptions are billed once per year on the anniversary of your initial purchase date. You may cancel at any time; cancellation terms are set out in Section 7.
Credit bundles are one-time purchases. Unused credits do not expire.
We do not store your payment card details. All payment information is handled directly by Stripe in accordance with PCI DSS standards.
6.1 Statutory 14-Day Cooling-Off Right
Under the UK Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013, you have a statutory right to cancel online purchases within 14 calendar days of the date of purchase without giving any reason, and to receive a full refund. The way this right applies to your purchase depends on what you purchased:
Premium subscriptions (monthly or annual): You have a full 14-day cooling-off right. To exercise it, email admin@studyviaai.com within 14 days of your purchase date stating that you wish to cancel under your 14-day cooling-off right. We will process a full refund to your original payment method within 14 days of receiving your cancellation request. Your Premium access will end on the date we process the refund. After the 14-day cooling-off period expires, the ordinary cancellation terms in Section 7 apply and no refund is available for the remaining billing period.
Credit bundles: At the point of purchase, you will be asked to confirm that you want your credits to be delivered to your account immediately on payment and that you understand this waives your 14-day cancellation right under the Regulations once the credits are delivered. By ticking the confirmation box at checkout, you expressly consent to immediate delivery and acknowledge that, once the credits have been delivered to your account, you lose the statutory cancellation right for that purchase. This reflects the exception in Regulation 36(2)(b) of the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 for digital goods that are fully delivered during the cooling-off period with the consumer's express prior consent. Credit bundles are non-refundable once delivered.
If you did not tick the confirmation box and your credits have not yet been delivered, you retain your full 14-day cooling-off right and may cancel by emailing admin@studyviaai.com for a full refund.
7. Downgrade and Cancellation
7.1 Cancelling Your Premium Subscription
You may cancel your Premium subscription at any time from your account settings. Cancellation is subject to the following rules, which apply equally to monthly and annual subscriptions:
- Cancellation stops future renewals. Your Premium subscription will not renew at the next billing date.
- You retain Premium access for the remainder of the billing period you have already paid for. For a monthly subscription purchased on the 10th of a month and cancelled on the 11th, Premium access continues until the 10th of the following month. For an annual subscription purchased on 1 April and cancelled in June, Premium access continues until the following 1 April.
- No refund is due for the unused portion of the current billing period, except where the statutory 14-day cooling-off right applies (see Section 6.1).
- During the remaining paid period, you retain full access to all Premium features, all of your active learning goals, voice mode, mock exams, revision notes, uploaded lecture materials, and all associated data.
7.2 Transition to Free Plan at End of Billing Period
At the end of your paid billing period, your account automatically reverts to the Free Plan. At that point, and not before, the following changes take effect:
- Only your most recently accessed learning goal will be retained. All other goals and their associated data (curricula, lessons, progress, notes, quiz attempts, revision notes, uploaded lecture materials, and mock exam data) will be permanently deleted.
- Your remaining monthly bonus credits will be cleared.
- You retain access to any previously purchased credit bundles. These credits do not expire.
- Your account is restored to the Free Plan limits described in Section 5.1: one active learning goal, Socratic tutoring only, 14 AI prompts per week, and basic progress tracking.
This transition is irreversible. If you wish to retain data from goals that will be deleted at the end of the billing period, you can export your curricula and revision notes to PDF, or save your notes, at any time before the billing period ends.
7.3 Reactivating Premium
You may resubscribe to Premium at any time. If you resubscribe before your billing period ends, the cancellation is simply reversed and your subscription continues as normal. If you resubscribe after your billing period has ended and your account has reverted to Free, Premium features will be restored but any data that was deleted in the Free-plan transition (goals, curricula, lesson history and so on) cannot be recovered. Purchased credit bundles are preserved regardless.
7.4 Account Deletion
Cancelling your subscription does not delete your account. If you wish to delete your account entirely, see Section 14 (Data Protection and GDPR). Account deletion is a separate action and results in permanent removal of all your data, including any remaining credit bundle balance.
8. Referral Programme
Users may invite friends using a unique referral code. When a new user applies a valid referral code, both the referrer and the referee receive 3 bonus credits (15 AI prompts). Each user may only apply one referral code. Self-referrals are not permitted. We reserve the right to modify or discontinue the referral programme at any time.
9. AI-Generated Content
StudyViaAI uses artificial intelligence to generate curricula, tutoring responses, quizzes, diagnostic assessments, book recommendations, daily quests, explanations, scoring, revision notes, and mock exam questions and grading. The AI models used are operated by OpenAI and accessed through the Replit AI Integrations service (see Section 13). You acknowledge that:
- AI-generated content may contain inaccuracies, errors, or outdated information.
- The Service is a learning aid, not a substitute for professional education, academic advice, or certified instruction.
- You should independently verify any critical information provided by the AI tutor.
- You may report inaccurate AI responses using the "Report an Error" feature on any bot message.
9.1 Subjects Not Supported on StudyViaAI
Certain subject areas are not supported on StudyViaAI at all because the potential for real-world harm from acting on AI-generated content in these fields is too high for a learning-aid platform to responsibly cover. If you attempt to create a learning goal in any of the following areas, your goal will not be created and no curriculum will be generated:
- Psychiatry and mental health — including the clinical, therapeutic, or diagnostic framing of any psychological condition
- Criminal law — including criminal justice, criminal procedure, criminology, criminal defence, and criminal prosecution
- Pharmacology — including pharmaceutical sciences, drug interactions, dosage, prescription medication, toxicology, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics
- Psychology — including counselling, psychotherapy, clinical psychology, cognitive behavioural therapy, and any clinical or therapeutic framing of psychological practice
Academic neuroscience or cognitive science framings of mental health topics (for example, "neuroscience of depression" or "cognitive science of anxiety") are also not supported because the boundary between academic and clinical content in these areas is difficult to maintain safely within an AI learning tool. Pure neuroscience topics that do not touch clinical mental health conditions (for example, synaptic transmission, brain anatomy, memory formation) remain supported.
These subjects require qualified human professionals — clinicians, licensed therapists, qualified lawyers, registered pharmacists — not an AI learning tool. Attempts to create a goal in these subjects will result in a polite refusal message, and no AI processing will take place on the goal text beyond the keyword check needed to identify the subject.
If you believe your goal was blocked in error, please contact us at admin@studyviaai.com for human review.
We may update the list of unsupported subjects from time to time. When the list changes, any existing goal that falls within an expanded category will also become unavailable for further AI-generated content. You will see a notice explaining this. Existing goal data will not be automatically deleted, but no new curriculum, lessons, quizzes, or other AI-generated content will be produced for goals that become blocked.
9.2 High-Stakes Subjects — Academic Use Only
Certain other subjects are classified as high-stakes due to the potential real-world consequences of acting on AI-generated information in these fields, but are supported on StudyViaAI subject to an academic-use-only acknowledgement. These subjects include, but are not limited to:
- Medicine (excluding psychiatry and mental health, which are not supported per Section 9.1) — including clinical medicine, nursing, healthcare, anatomy, physiology, pathology, diagnosis, treatment, and surgery
- Law (excluding criminal law, which is not supported per Section 9.1) — including civil law, contract law, constitutional law, jurisprudence, litigation, and tort law
- Finance — including financial advice, investment, trading, tax, accounting, portfolio management, and wealth management
- Engineering — including structural, civil, chemical, electrical and safety engineering
When you create a learning goal in any of these subjects, you will be presented with a safety interstitial that you must acknowledge before proceeding. By acknowledging the interstitial, you confirm that:
- You understand the content is for academic and educational purposes only.
- You will not rely on AI-generated content in these subjects for real-world decisions, professional practice, or personal health, legal, financial, or safety matters.
- AI-generated content in these fields may be incomplete, outdated, or incorrect, and is not a substitute for qualified professional advice.
9.3 Attempting to Circumvent the Subject Restrictions
Attempting to phrase or disguise a goal to bypass the subject-area restrictions in Section 9.1 is a breach of these Terms. Repeated deliberate attempts may result in account suspension or termination in line with Section 11. Good-faith attempts to learn supported topics that are unintentionally blocked (false positives) are not treated as violations, please contact us at admin@studyviaai.com and we will review.
10. User Conduct and Content Safety
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful, harmful, or abusive purpose
- Attempt to exploit, hack, or reverse-engineer the Service or its AI systems
- Submit false, misleading, or offensive content through any input (tutor chat, feedback, error reports, or notes)
- Create multiple accounts to circumvent plan limitations or abuse the referral programme
- Resell, redistribute, or commercially exploit any AI-generated content from the Service
- Interfere with the Service's infrastructure, including rate limits and usage quotas
- Submit content that contains violence, threats, self-harm, illegal activity, sexual content, hate speech, or discrimination
- Attempt to use the AI tutor to obtain real-world professional advice in high-stakes subjects (see Section 9.2)
- Attempt to phrase or disguise learning goals to bypass the subject-area restrictions in Section 9.1
- Attempt to circumvent or bypass the content safety filters
10.1 Content Moderation and Filtering
All user inputs are automatically screened by our content safety system before being processed by the AI. Inputs that violate our content policies are blocked and logged as content violations. The categories of prohibited content include:
- Violence & Threats: Content promoting or glorifying violence, terrorism, or physical harm
- Self-Harm: Content encouraging self-harm, suicide, or dangerous behaviours
- Illegal Activity: Content soliciting illegal acts, drug manufacturing, weapons, or fraud
- Sexual Content: Sexually explicit or inappropriate material
- Hate Speech: Content targeting individuals or groups based on protected characteristics
- Academic Dishonesty: Requests to write essays, complete assignments, or cheat on exams
- Off-Topic Professional Advice: Requests for real-world medical, legal, financial, or engineering advice rather than academic learning
AI-generated output is also monitored for safety. If the AI produces content that violates our safety policies, the response is blocked and logged.
10.2 Violations and Consequences
Content violations are logged and reviewed. Repeated or severe violations may result in:
- A formal warning on your account
- Temporary suspension of your access to the Service
- Permanent termination of your account
Users who accumulate multiple content violations are flagged as repeat offenders and may be suspended by our admin team. Suspended users cannot access the Service until their suspension is lifted.
Attempts to create goals in unsupported subject areas (per Section 9.1) are logged separately and do not themselves count toward content-violation repeat-offender thresholds. However, deliberate and repeated attempts to bypass the subject-area restrictions may be treated as a breach of Section 9.3 and Section 10 of these Terms, which can result in the consequences listed above.
11. Account Suspension and Termination
We may suspend or terminate your account at our sole discretion if you breach these Terms. Grounds for suspension or termination include, but are not limited to:
- Violation of content safety policies (see Section 10.1)
- Accumulation of multiple content violations (repeat offenders)
- Deliberate and repeated attempts to bypass the subject-area restrictions in Section 9.1
- Abuse of the Service, referral programme, or promotional features
- Any other breach of these Terms
Suspended accounts cannot log in, and all active sessions are immediately invalidated. We may also permanently delete accounts upon request for GDPR data erasure (see Section 14). Upon termination, all associated data including goals, curricula, lessons, tutoring history, quiz attempts, notes, analytics, credits, content violation records, and sessions — will be permanently deleted.
12. Feedback and Error Reports
You may submit feedback (categorised as Bug Report, Feature Request, or General) with a rating and message via the Feedback page. You may also report incorrect AI responses using the Report Error feature. Submissions are reviewed by our administrative team. By submitting feedback or error reports, you grant us the right to use this information to improve the Service without compensation or attribution.
13. Intellectual Property and AI Processing
13.1 StudyViaAI Intellectual Property
The StudyViaAI platform, including its software code, user interface design, trademarks, branding, Socratic prompt engineering, content moderation rules, and proprietary pedagogical methodology, is owned by StudyViaAI Ltd. All rights are reserved.
13.2 AI Models and the Replit AI Integration
StudyViaAI's AI-powered features are delivered using large language models operated by OpenAI, LLC ("OpenAI"). StudyViaAI accesses these models through Replit, Inc. ("Replit") via Replit's AI Integrations service, under our commercial relationship with Replit.
This creates a three-party processing chain:
- Replit is StudyViaAI's direct service provider and processor. Replit manages the API credentials, routes each AI request to OpenAI on our behalf, and bills us at the public API price.
- OpenAI is Replit's sub-processor. StudyViaAI does not hold a direct licence or contractual relationship with OpenAI for AI processing.
- The underlying AI models are owned and operated by OpenAI. StudyViaAI is not the developer or operator of these models. Our responsibility is for the Service we build on top of them — including our prompts, configuration, content safety filters, and the features described in Section 4.
Under Replit's Commercial Agreement with us, your inputs and the AI-generated outputs are not used by Replit or OpenAI to train their general-purpose foundation models. The relevant terms governing this arrangement are publicly available at replit.com/commercial-agreement and replit.com/dpa.
We reserve the right to change AI providers or intermediaries in the future. Replit maintains an authoritative list of its sub-processors at replit.com/subprocessors and may update it in accordance with its DPA. Material changes to the AI provider stack will be reflected in our Privacy Policy.
13.3 Your Content and AI-Generated Output
You retain ownership of any original content you create within the Service, including your notes, reflections, text inputs, uploaded lecture materials, and answers to quizzes and mock exams.
AI-generated curricula, tutoring dialogue, quizzes, diagnostic assessments, revision notes, exam questions, and exam grading created in response to your inputs are licensed to you for personal, non-commercial educational use only. You may not resell, redistribute, or commercially exploit this content. You may not represent AI-generated grades or scores as formal academic qualifications.
13.4 Limitation on AI Output
You acknowledge that AI models may produce content that is inaccurate, incomplete, biased, or inappropriate despite the safety measures we have in place. Our responsibility under these Terms extends only to providing the Service in accordance with these Terms; we do not warrant the accuracy, fitness for purpose, or reliability of AI-generated content itself. The disclaimers in Section 9 and the restrictions in Sections 9.1 and 9.2 apply.
14. Data Protection and GDPR
We process personal data in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. For full details on data collection, use, retention, and your rights, please see our Privacy Policy. You have the right to request a complete deletion of your account and all associated data by contacting us at admin@studyviaai.com.
14.1 Analytics and Session Recording
StudyViaAI uses analytics tools to understand how users interact with the platform and to improve the learning experience. Our analytics are powered by PostHog, hosted on EU-based servers (eu.i.posthog.com) for GDPR compliance.
If you consent to analytics cookies via the cookie consent banner, StudyViaAI may:
- Track page views, feature usage, and interaction patterns to understand how the platform is used
- Record anonymised session replays of how you navigate and interact with the platform — these recordings capture page views, clicks, scrolls, and on-screen content to help us identify usability issues and improve the product
Sensitive personal information (email addresses, dates of birth, passwords, and payment details) is automatically masked and not visible in session recordings.
Learning interaction content (such as chat messages, curriculum content, exam answers, and AI tutor responses) may be visible in session recordings, as this data is essential for understanding and improving the educational experience.
Session recordings are only accessible to authorised StudyViaAI team members and are used solely for product improvement purposes. They are never shared with third parties, used for marketing, or used to identify individual users outside of product improvement purposes.
You can opt out of analytics and session recording at any time by rejecting analytics cookies via the Cookie Settings link in the website footer, or by contacting admin@studyviaai.com. If you opt out, no analytics data is collected and no session recordings are made.
For full details on the cookies and data involved, see our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy.
15. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:
- The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied.
- StudyViaAI Ltd shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service.
- Our total liability for any claim arising from these Terms or the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid to us in the 12 months preceding the claim.
- We do not guarantee uninterrupted, error-free, or secure access to the Service.
16. Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email or through a notice on the Service. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. We encourage you to review these Terms periodically.
17. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising from or relating to these Terms or the Service shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
